My name is Megan Kornegay and here is the story of how I fight my daily Goliath...Breast Cancer. My life changed forever in May of 2020. The words, "It's breast cancer" shook my entire being to the core. Our minds have been trained to equate cancer with death. I went there for about a day or so. Then one morning I woke up and was ready to fight.
My breast cancer diagnosis was the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has forced me to live every day, out loud, and on purpose.
I have Triple Positive, HER 2 Positive breast cancer. It's one of the most researched breast cancers you can have. That worked in my favor as far as treatment goes. I've undergone 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 20 rounds of radiation. I have 7 more rounds of targeted chemotherapy left to go. I will take a daily pill for the next 5 years. It sounds tremendous and it is! My medical team vowed to do all they could to preserve my life and I'm thankful for it. I'm a breast cancer advocate now. Pink has always been my favorite color, anyway. I'm an advocate for early detection and diagnosis. Those are the very things that helped to save my life.
Since diagnosis, so many women have messaged me about getting their mammograms or making an appointment to get something they found checked out. People tell me all of the time how my story has inspired them in one way or another. My response to anyone is glory to God. Glory to God that my story touched your life in one way or another. I want people to look at my breast cancer journey, see God, and marvel at the very miraculous ways He can use ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He chose breast cancer as my Goliath and I'm living every day to win!
